Pet Halloween Costume Ideas

Many people are shocked when they hear this idea. Taking the dog trick-or-treating? “Isn’t that a little weird?”, they may ask. For someone who loves their dog, including him in the festivities and activities of the day only seems logical instead of leaving him in the house or in the yard all by himself while everyone else is out having fun. And if you’re going to take him trick-or-treating… You might as well go all out! People dress up their dogs on regular days just for fun, so what not do so on Halloween since you have such a broad selection of unique pet Halloween costumes?

You don’t even have to be going trick-or-treating. Just having people over, or when handing out candy, having the dog dressed up will send tons of attention his way (and he’ll thank you for that, trust me!). They might even notice the dog faster than your own children! It’s always amazing how fast people can be to hand out doggy treats to dogs too! Just be careful he doesn’t eat any chocolate. Remember, it’s poison to dogs, and must be avoided at all costs. Dogs metabolize some of the caffeine-like effects of the chocolate much slower than humans, and even a little chocolate can cause serious health problems or even death in dogs who consume it. So be careful, and keep the chocolate to yourself!

Now, the question of the year. What might you dress up your puppy as for Halloween? Well, the easiest way to figure that out is to get out there and look at outfits! Even Wal-Mart and Target sell dog costumes in this day-and-age. Specialty dog stores and boutiques will have even more selection, though the big box retailers will have the most bang-for-the-buck. If you’re willing to look around ahead of time, you can find the most adorable costumes on the internet. Anything you can think of is pretty much guaranteed to be sold online. They even sell cat costumes! Cat’s usually aren’t very keen to being dressed up however, so you may want to stick to the family dog for this one.

Most dogs just love being dressed up! They are about the only creatures other than humans that actually enjoy wearing clothing. There are exceptions to this rule though, so listen closely to your dog, and if he or she isn’t doing well, don’t push things. There’s no since torturing your dog for a little fun. Pet Halloween costumes are usually comfortable for your dog, but there are exceptions.

Remember, if you walk your dog with you on Halloween, always keep him on a leash. Loose dogs cause problems, and with many little kids not much bigger than toddlers running around, even a small dog could cause problems, and you might end up facing a rather large lawsuit if things go bad.

Remember to pick up some sweet treats for your puppy too. Doggy bakeries sell carob chip (free of chocolate) cookies, cupcakes, and other yummy treats your dog will go crazy over. There’s no since in the kids being the only ones getting treats!
