The Ultimate Guide to Kids Halloween Costumes
As October grows near, you may be eying the traditional sheet-over-head ghost costume that so many fall back on every year. Not to worry, this guide serves to help you pick out kids Halloween costumes that will knock the socks off what their friends picked out!
From kids army costumes to kids costumes for doctor settings, to mutilated zombies, you can go either the traditional route, or take a whole new route to Halloween kids costumes!
If you’re on a budget, you can make a witch costume very easily. Simply cut three holes in a black piece of fabric (one for the head, two for the arms), throw it on with a pointed witch hat and throw some brushwood into the bristles of the family broom for a more dramatic effect.
Another easy kids Halloween costume that goes along with the kids costumes for doctor environments, is a simple zombie. You can dress your kids in old dress clothes (check a thrift store for cheap ones), and tear some holes in it so it looks like they were buried all dressed up in a casket. Then tear up a white sheet, and wrap it around the limbs, torso, and head as if it were bandages. You can pick up “theatrical blood” at most major stores during the Halloween season.

Authentic Delta Force Child Costume
Kids army costumes are another route that children just love. Dress them up in camouflage clothes, with a military style hat, and a toy gun that looks authentic to the army (many stores sell toy guns that look like M-16’s, that is always a safe bet). To take it a step farther, throw in a belt with a military-looking toy knife and a walkie talkie. Your child’s friends can even dress up in kids army costumes as well, then they can talk to each other on walkie talkies and look like a little army troop.
If you use one of those giant trash bags that are clear in color, you can get a multicolored pack of balloons, blow them up, and fill the bag with them after attaching holes for the arms and legs of your child. The end result is a giant gum ball machine! For added effect, have your child wear red pants so his or her legs look like the base of a gum ball machine. You have to be careful if you live in a warmer environment however, as this outfit can be extremely hot in the warmer months since it provides little cooling for your child.
If your child was a fan of the latest Batman movie (The Dark Knight), the traditional Joker is a great pick for your kid’s Halloween costume. Simple white, red and black face paint makes the joker face easy to pull off. For added effect, mess up your child’s hair and dress him or her in purple clothing. If you want to go all the way, have your child say “Why so serious?” at the door instead of the traditional “trick or treat!”. It’s sure to get a laugh every time.
