Star Trek characters are a safe bet for the geekier gatherings of people. Dressing up like members of the U.S.S. Enterprise is just not something you get to do every day of the week. Well, if you have a job and a life anyway. A crowd if Star Trek fans are guaranteed to love this, and will most likely become completely absorbed in their characters. The only downside to this is a whole group of Star Trek members may just have a hard time socializing with the other guests.
A fun group costume idea is for everyone to dress up like ninjas! Either all white or all black, with only the slits of the eyes showing, and swords across each ninja’s back. Since the guests are hidden behind the costumes, they can let the other guests try to guess who is who before revealing their true identity. Ninjas have so many gadgets that each person should be able to stock a tool belt full of gadgets if they wish (throwing stars, rope, knives, etc.). If the ninjas thing doesn’t go over well, another similar alternative is for everyone to dress up as pirates instead. It doesn’t take much to purchase some eye patches and some pirate hats, and you can fill in your clothing around those two items.
Really, any theme can be used for your Halloween gathering – you can all dress up as rock stars from the same band. You can wear clothes band members might wear on stage, and play air guitar (or air drums, or air base, or lip sync) to all the songs so you guys look like you’re jamming out one of your own songs on stage! Anything that a rock star might play in is game. A good fall back is a pair of distressed jeans with a music related t-shirt (if you have one with a guitar or an old Metallica shirt, that’s even better), along with any rocker style jewelery. Be sure to mess you hair up with some gel, you don’t want to look too put together if you’re going to pull this look off.
Halloween costumes for group gatherings require more forethought and planning that picking a costume for yourself only, but the reward is there for those willing to go through the work, because a group of people can have practically unlimited fun together on Halloween if everyone puts the effort into it.
