Successfully Pulling Off Group Costumes

So you’ve got a bunch of friends together, Halloween is just around the corner, and you’ve all got a great idea! Why not everyone get together and do group costumes this year? That’s a fantastic idea, and with a little preparation, planning, and foresight it can go off without a hitch to be a very memorable, important experience.

First off, it’s important to make sure everyone in your group is game for the idea of group costumes. You don’t want to force anyone into anything, or find out at the last minute they already have a costume planned - right after you’ve ordered theres!

One fun thing to do, is get everyone together to form a government anti-terrorist unit. You can name yourselves whatever abbreviation you want, or simply go as CIA or NSA agents. The dress for this is pretty simple. Solid black suits, with white button-down dress shirts and solid black ties with dark sunglasses. Everyone in the group should be dressed exactly the same. A single earbud in one ear with a spiral cord tucked into your jacket adds the look of a private comm unit like government agencies use. For added realism, and to freak everyone out a little bit, enter the room, don’t say a word, look completely serious, and just have everyone stand by the door with their arms folded for a period of time, remaining still and quiet. Then everyone can just start cracking up laughing and having a good time.

You can also all go as nerds for a fun twist on group costumes. Oversized fake glasses, pocket protectors, pants pulled up past the belly button, giant calculators… Maybe even some of those propeller hats for added geekyness. For extra points, have everyone stand around and talk about something really nerdy, like math or quantum physics or something along those lines. Whenever a girl walks buy, have all of them shudder like she is an alien and they have no idea what to do. Of course, the act doesn’t have to go on for long. Everyone is there to have fun, after all. After a few minutes, the nerds can break off from their own group and go socialize with everyone else.

A giant group of vampires can also be a really cool group. Have everyone dress differently, but wear the same fangs, white face makeup, black eyes and red lips. Everyone should dress in a sort of gothic type style so they fit in with vampire theme - they don’t need to dress like the classic Dracula though. No capes required (or allowed, if you want to go that far). One can add even more realism to the vampire costume by adding two “puncture wounds” in the side of the neck, presumably where that vampire was bitten when they were human that turned them into a vampire.

Group costumes can be difficult to figure out, but with these simple ideas, you’ll have the ball rolling and will be on your way to bigger and better ideas
