Dog costume pet costumes
How many years have you figured out a costume for yourself, your children, your friends, everyone you know to celebrate Halloween, but how many times have you considered including the family dog in the process? It may sound silly, but by including the dog, you can all have more fun! The dog will enjoy the exercise and getting to meet people, and it’s just fun to walk around with your pet in a dog costume on Halloween!
The truth is, there are many costumes for dog lovers out there! Everything from cowboys and Indians, from firefighters to policemen. You can order any costume you wish, or even order the patterns to make your own (which is usually much cheaper, if you’re handy with the sewing machine).
One thing people are often surprised at, is that you can even put a costume on a cat! They may hate it at first, but many cats get used to it after a while, and even grow to be okay with it! You can dress your cat up as supercat, or put a red cape and crown on him to make him look like the king he already thinks he is! You can even buy miniature Romeo costumes to make your cat look like he stepped right out of a Shakespeare play!
Nothing is cuter when people come over to your house on Halloween than seeing your pets all outfitted for the holiday, it’s a very festive feeling, and everyone feels included. You can even match your costume so that it is the same as both the cats and dogs. You can all have themed clothing! Now that will impress your visitors.
It’s common for people to bring their pets trick-or-treating (mainly dogs, of course). Dogs love getting out there and meeting new people. Every time the door bell rings, the dog will get excited knowing he or she’s going to meet a new friendly face. One danger to be aware of, is make sure that your dog stays away from chocolate. Many people, especially children, may attempt to feed your dog chocolate without knowing any better – and it tastes good to your dog, so he’ll eat it right up. The problem is that chocolate is poison to dogs since they don’t metabolize it the same way humans do, and even in small amounts it can be fatal to them.
When trick-or-treating with your dog, you will be amazed at the sheer amount of attention you get. Little kids will want to pet your dog, owners will stop to talk to you about how cute the costume is, and people at the doors will be all over your dog. Please make sure your dog is happy and calm around people. It would be a shame for someone, especially a small child, to get hurt if your dog gets scared suddenly. Make sure you dog is used to being petted and even picked up by strangers.
With a few basic safety precautions in mind, this Halloween can turn out to be the best one yet, since a new member of the family is able to join you on your outings with a new dog halloween costume!
